George Markopoulos, Co-Owner and Guide

George Markopoulos has been a Waterman for almost 30 years on the Delmarva, Hatteras, Florida, Kauai and on Maui. He is a sponsored team rider, an ACA (American Canoe Assocation) certified SUP Instructor, WPA Certified SUP Instructor, PaddleFit Level 2 Instructor, ASI Level 3 Certified SUP Instructor and a US Sailing Certified Windsurf Instructor. George volunteers as the Director of US Windsurfing in the Mid-Atlantic region. He is an avid lover of the wind, water and waves. All who know him know that "if it's blowin', he's goin'"...windsurfing that is.

In his prior life, George was an accountant and CPA. He earned his masters degree in International Management from the University of Maryland, but you would never know. He is definitely not the stereotypical accountant. His accounting skills sure do come in handy as he manages finance/accounting and H/R for DBSA in his spare time. George has a daughter, Kristin, who is currently going to college in Texas.

Janis Markopoulos, Co-Owner

Janis Markopoulos manages the Rehoboth Shop, the reservations desk, the beach concession, all marketing, purchasing, merchandising and special events. She is known for providing unparalleled customer service. She also provides most of the photography for George's Blog and for special events such as the Hatteras Wave Jam. Some of her best work is featured in Windsurfing International, Windsport, Windsurfing Magazine and The New England Windsurfing Journal. Janis has 25+ years of retail I.T. experience implementing retail point of sale systems, CRM systems, inventory control systems, reservation systems, social media systems and eMarketing systems such as Constant Contact eMarketing. Janis is often called a Marketing dynamo.

On cold, rainy days, you'll find Janis scrapbooking or creating newsletters for Delmarva Board Sports. She's super proud of her daughter, Lauren, who has a degree in Psychology from St. Mary's College of Maryland and is now employed with the college as their Assistant Director of Alumni Relations. Janis is an alumni of ABK Boardsports Windsurfing camp. She also serves on the board for Southern Delaware Tourism in an advisory role.

Tom worked as an equipment technician and instructor for Vela Resorts in Aruba for five years. Tom and his wife moved from central NY to Delaware in 2011 and love it here. Tom started working for Delmarva in 2012.

Steve McAllister - Rescue Boat Master

This is Steve's third season.  Born and raised on Delmarva, he is newly retired and excited to start this next phase of his life with us. We are just as stoked to have him!  Steve takes super good care of our rescue boat and he also drives our vans.  Steve is a history buff and model train enthusiast.  He lives in Milford with his wife Helen, and when he's not  on our beach managing the fleet, you can find him on his boat fishing in the Delaware Bay or driving groups of visitors to local wineries, breweries, meaderies and distilleries in our Brew Bus Van.

Carla Keister - Guide/Dock Master

Carla is an ACA certified kayak instructor with 20 years of experience. She is a proud graduate of the University of Alabama... Roll Tide! She has been kayaking the Rehoboth Bay for 10 years and enjoys taking her boat out with her family and three dogs. Carla is a photographer by trade and travels frequently along the Mid-Atlantic to do so. This is Carla's first summer with DBSA- welcome to the team, Carla!

Keith Hines - Guide

Keith has been in, on, or under water for the past 20 + years as a Lifeguard, scuba diver, USCG Rescue Swimmer, body board and SUP surfer. Keith now instructs Water Safety courses for lifeguards, and guides SUP tours. Keith always believes that the water should be both fun and safe.

Merritt Burke - Guide/Dock Master/Shop

Merritt was born in Milford and raised on Lewes Beach graduating from Cape Henlopen High School followed by Washington College and the University of Delaware.  He spent his childhood boating, fishing, surfing and sailing on the Delaware Bay and Atlantic Ocean.  Merritt is an accomplished waterman who loves to paddleboard, kayak, sail and surf in his free time.  His favorite paddling trips are the Broadkill River near Milton and Cape Henlopen State Park in Lewes.  When the surf is up, you can find him in the early morning hours at Assateague or Northside at Indian River Inlet.  No matter where Merritt is enjoying the ocean, safety is always the first priority.

Merritt has a background in municipal management and land use consulting, and has managed the Towns of Bridgeville and Fenwick Island.  He most recently was the CEO of the Sussex County Association of REALTORS.  He resides in Milton with his wife and four children all of which are on the Lewes Yacht Club swim team and involved with Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts. He believes that Sussex County, and specifically, Lewes is one of the best locations in America to expose children to a variety of water sports.  He looks forward to sharing his love of the water as a tour guide this summer!
